The Last Words of David

This past weekend, we concluded our series on the life of King David, considering a passage of scripture which refers to itself as his last words. Though the meaning of that label is debated, – either as his last words under inspiration or his actual final words spoken – the message of these words is…

The Blessing of Mephibosheth

Of the many stories in David’s life that foreshadowed an aspect of our Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, the blessing of Mephibosheth ranks at the top of the list. Seeking to honor the memory of his dear friend Jonathan, David performs an unprecedented act of kindness upon Mephibosheth, Jonathan’s remaining heir, a disabled man. In…

Elder Record Podcast

Elder Chris Folsom has launched a rather interesting podcast called Elder Record. In it, he interviews Primitive Baptist elders about their ministries but also personal lives. It’s available on a number of platforms, including Spotify, Podbean, and Amazon. Last week, I had the fun privilege of participating in an interview for the podcast. In the…

Delivered From Darkness (Sermon)

Continuing our exposition of Paul’s epistle to the Colossians, we come to one of the most beautiful and concise statements involving our deliverance from sin in the New Testament. Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light: Who hath delivered us from…

Vengeance Is The Lord’s

Lately on Words of Grace, we’ve been considering stories from the life of King David. One thing I love about the Bible is its candid depiction of the lives of our heroes, sharing their victories and their failures. David is no exception to this rule, and so we learn of things such as his triumph…

Zeal of Thine House Hath Eaten Me Up

The Son of Consolation

“And Joses, who by the apostles was surnamed Barnabas, (which is, being interpreted, The son of consolation,) a Levite, and of the country of Cyprus.” (Acts 4:36) During this blessed time of outpouring of charity in the early church, there were many that sold their possessions and gave the proceeds to the church. One of…

What Will We Know in Heaven?

How much knowledge of the events on earth – either in the past, present, or future – will God’s children have when they go to heaven? This is a very common question, especially when a loved one passes away. Unfortunately, some people approach this question with more sentimentality than scripture. Your loved ones are not…

God’s Faithfulness Through Temptation

“There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.” (1 Cor. 10:13) It is a…
