For the record, I keep seeing this post comparing King David to a certain political figure in the USA. I’m not commenting on the political figure or politics. But the post attempts, very grossly, to compare David’s state when he was appointed as king to this political figure’s character failures. It asserts that David was a “filthy minded, adulterous, wealthy man with evil in his heart.”
Let me just say when God appointed David, he was a man after God’s own heart. He was a faith filled shepherd who slew a bear and a lion to protect his father’s sheep. He defeated a giant who blasphemed God. When Samuel was sent to anoint David, he did so because God, who knows the heart, selected him to be king. He wasn’t wealthy when he was younger and was homeless many times, living on the run from a crazed king, Saul. And, God loved David so much He raised the Christ up from David’s loins. David sought God with his whole heart. David begged God to search his heart and purify him. The list goes on and on.
Yes, David committed a terrible sin with Bathsheeba. But he was repentant before. And he was repentant after and regretted what he had done. There’s a lesson for all of us in his failings too. Many lessons in fact. We’re all sinners. Only Jesus, David’s Son, is righteous.
Please, please, please don’t swallow the point that meme is trying to make. It’s biblically unsound. Actually, it’s offensive. And it’s trying to compare one of our political figures with the greatest type and shadow of Christ in the Bible, David.
The meme, just so you’re informed:
