About the Book

About the Author: Elder James H. Oliphant (1841-1925) of Crawfordsville, Indiana, was a respected Primitive Baptist minister and prolific writer. Very few before or after him has written such theologically precise, yet poetic works. Oliphant was a contributing editor for several periodcials. He also authored many books. Such books include Perseverance of the Saints, Principles and Practices of the Regular Baptists, Justification and Kindred Subjects, and Practical Suggestions for Common People. About the Book: Thoughts on the Will discusses the human will and its relation to salvation, obedience, and sin. The author proposes that any view of the will that promotes Arminianism or gives an excuse for sin should be rejected. Oliphant makes it clear that if we love the doctrines of grace then “should not only oppose Arminianism, but we should oppose every other sentiment that would tend to the overthrow of it.”
