Salvation by Grace Alone

By Vaughn Winslett

The scripture teaches the total depravity of man. We read in the book of Genesis of the creation, everything which God had made was good and very good. God created all things, He made man good and upright. Through the deception of Satan, in rebellion against God, Adam sinned and death passed upon all men. Our existence, through inheritance, is sin.

The devil’s doctrines today still deceive many. The popular teachings of men uplift the man and therefore deny the righteousness of God. We are told to hold ourselves in high esteem, and then men wonder why things are in the shape they are in.

David, in Psalm 51 acknowledges his sin and begs God to cleanse him. Verse 5 states “Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me.” We are born, yet conceived, being sin due to our father Adam.

The 14th Psalm declares the nature of man, ” The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, They have done abominable works, There is none that doeth good.” All are corrupt! None doeth good! Not only is our nature and inheritance sin, but so are our works. Genesis 6 tells us that our hearts are wicked from the days of our youth. Our walk and our works are sin. In our natural being we deny God, and say He is not. We rebel and fight against Him. To give any claim to righteousness and goodness by our own being and goodness is a lie. We are in a state of death, Ephesians 2, and cannot love God, we cannot see God, we cannot come to God, we cannot please God. We live in a world in which evil men and seducers wax worse and worse deceiving and being deceived. As they deceive they are deceived, denying God while living in, and loving the death of sin in the world.

It is of the sovereign grace of God, in His Son Jesus Christ, That we have life. Ephesians 2 ” And you hath He quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins. The Son of God was born into this world to SAVE HIS PEOPLE FROM THEIR SINS. That he did, leaving nothing undone, or for us to do. We have life eternal in the grace of God. John 1:17 tells us that grace came by Jesus. When He died, in laying down His life on the cross of Calvary, He bought eternal life for every elect child of God, Ephesians 1,1st Peter 1, Romans 8.

We love God because He first loved us. When did He love us. Psalm 14 states ” The Lord looked down from heaven upon the children of men,to see if there were any that understand, and seek God.” This was before He created the world, in His foreknowledge. There were none. God loves us so much that he gave his only begotten Son to suffer and die for our sins. On the cross the Lord Jesus bore our punishment for our sin, and God was satisfied in that. His body became sin for us. He bore our curse, cursed is everyone that hangeth upon a tree. It is by grace, there is no other way. There is nothing that man can do to gain it. There is nothing that man ,nor the devil can do to take it. We are promised eternal life, Titus 1, and God cannot lie.

It is also of grace that we know God. In His death and resurrection, He made us holy and without blame before the Father. He gives us knowledge of the Father. He draws us to Him and teaches us of His way, that we might Have joy in this world of death and sorrow. The grace of God is so overwhelming, it cannot be understood, nor fully revealed in this world of sin. When by His grace we stand before Him, and are in His likeness, we shall be satisfied and fully understand His great love. What a precious hope is ours.

Now, why do neglect so great a salvation. Let us not forsake the assembling of ourselves together, come hear the preached word of God, pray and sing songs of praise to our loving Master. Come feel the love which God has for us as we love each other in Christ. By His grace we have a kingdom, let us occupy the kingdom and have peace in this world.

Pray for Zion, please pray for me,
