How Should Preachers Be Educated?
Written by Ben Cordes

And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.
2 Timothy 2:2

Education is greatly emphasized in our world, today, as it should be.  After all, who wants an uneducated world?  However, what we are teaching/learning is far more important and should be our greatest concern.  Being a minister, I often get questions from every-day acquaintances, such as “where did you receive your education as a minister?”  This question may be an uncomfortable one for some ministers to answer, but for me it is easy and gives me great pleasure to reply with “from the Bible”.  Now, granted, I have learned many things from many ministers and I have read several theological writings however, the book that I have studied and continue to study on a daily basis is the word of God.  It is the foundation on which each minister has instructed me from and the source of the topics which theologians elaborate.  If what we are teaching/learning is most important, then the greatest and safest content we could ever learn is found in the Bible.

After watching the Ham-Nye Debate, I have four thoughts I would like to share with our members, especially those in school. The thoughts that follow are responses to challenges made by Mr. Nye. They are:

Sermons on iTunes

Over the past year I have began trying to create a internet presence for the church I pastor, Antioch Primitive Baptist Church. I am doing this work for two reasons: 1) to give information about Antioch to people living in or moving to the Oxford area and who may be looking for a place to worship Christ, 2) to allow those who are sick, shut-in, and/or have moved to still listen to sermons preached at Antioch.

David, Abigail, and Nabal

Elder Keith Ellis posted an informative status update to his facebook page this morning from Ephesians 5 on the role of husbands to love and lead their wives as the spiritual head of the home. One comment he made I found especially interesting is as follows:

"Men are not to abuse their authority in the relationship by enslaving their wives. Just as our Lord is gracious towards His bride, the church, so should husbands love their wives.

Women are to submit to their husbands in The Lord. Wisdom and discernment are sometimes needed to know when the husbands authority oversteps the bounds of what is godly and right in the sight of God. In such cases the wife should not comply."

Why Should I Believe In Predestination?
Written by Ben Winslett
Friday, 07 February 2014 11:22

Have you ever heard of predestination? Unless you're a part of a denomination that teaches it, you probably have 1) never heard of it or, 2) heard very negative and scary things about it.

As Primitive Baptists, we believe in predestination. But what is predestination? Combined with the concept of election (God's choosing), predestination is a doctrine found in the Bible that explains to us that before He created the world, God chose a large number of people based upon His love for them and set their destiny to be carried home with Him for eternity after the destruction of the Universe. The word itself is very appropriate to convey this thought: Pre (before time) destinate (set the destiny).

Ken Ham, Bill Nye Creation vs Evolution Debate

In reference to the debate last night between Evolutionist Bill Nye and Creationist Ken Ham, let me say I am thankful for Mr Ham's defense of the Biblical record of creation. Our Universe is the product of a Divine act of creation. I applaud Mr Ham for arranging this debate and I thank Mr Nye for accepting the invitation rather than brushing Ham and his challenge off.

Ministerial Qualifications
Written by Joe Holder

Editor’s note: Elder Joe Holder publishes a weekly email devotional called “Gospel Gleanings.” From August 15 through September 5 he directed his attention to 1 Timothy 3:1. 1 Timothy 3:1 reads, “This is a true saying, If a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work.” The series name is “Ministerial Qualifications.” When I first read these articles in 2010 I felt refreshed and convicted.
