What do Primitive Baptists believe about tithing?
Written by Josh Winslett
Thursday, 24 August 2017 07:20

Primitive Baptists have by majority believed that tithing was exclusively given to the children of Israel through the Mosaic law (Leviticus 27:30-32) and not binding on New Testament (NT) believers. Hebrews were commanded to give a tithe for the purpose of supporting the Levitical priesthood. Their tithe was higher than ten percent because it comprised of more than just monetary giving. With this tithe they were supporting the Levites with food, wine, animals, and other items. This command (as well as animal sacrifices, dietary laws, and such like) are not binding on NT Christians. To place this command on NT believers would be to place statute on them that the Bible does not prescribe.

How do ministers know where to serve? Balancing desires, burdens, open doors, and needs.

The gospel ministry is different than any other vocation or activity. You see, God alone calls men to preach his gospel and God alone directs their field of labor. Ministers are not, as it were, “mamma called and daddy sent.” Nor is gospel ministry a field of labor where we decide the direction that we would wish to take. This makes the ministry somewhat more difficult because it takes more discerning than the way many laity make decisions. To quote Elder Wilson Thompson, “God fixes the field of labor for each of His called ministers, and in that place alone will they be profitable.” This is a truth that all ministers would affirm, but how do we determine the correct field?

The level of anger and hatred in our country has been extremely elevated for several years. While we've recently seen some horrendous public displays of evil and hatred, the truth of the matter is, violence has taken to the street many times in the last decade. Why?

Written by David Wise
Saturday, 12 August 2017 10:27

Brother Herbert Phelps, Bethany Primitive Baptist Church, San Antonio, Texas, is preparing a Nationwide Primitive Baptist Church Directory. He has already completed directories for Texas and several other western states, including New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada, Colorado, California, Washington, and Oregon. He plans to make the directory online and in printed form. We already have all the churches represented in the Texas and Western directories updated on the MTZ Church Directory listing, and we intend to update the directory with the appropriate information when the rest of the directories are complete, as well as provide the directory in an electronic PDF form.

An Eternal Personal Love
Written by David Wise

"The Lord hath appeared of old unto me, saying, Yea I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore, with lovingkindness have I drawn thee.” – Jeremiah 31:3

Jehovah God gives a personal admonition to the nation of Israel (that primarily applies to the elect family of spiritual Israel) of God’s everlasting love for His elect.  This verse affirms that God looked out over all of eternity and saw all the persons that would be created in the world, and He chose to love a set and distinct group of people.  However, not just did God love a vague and nebulous group, but His love was “individual and personal” – I have loved “thee” with an everlasting love!
