Written by Ben Winslett
Monday, 06 September 2010 10:10

I received these questions via email...below are my answers.

I was hoping you could impart your thoughts to me on Galatians 3:2 -

1) In what sense is Paul talking about receiving the Spirit?

2) What is meant by the "hearing of faith"?

3) And does this verse at all correlate with Romans 10:17

Prayer Request for Constacio Tejada
Written by Ben Winslett
Monday, 06 September 2010 07:56

This is a prayer request I received earlier today from a dear friend Elder Darrel Chambers. Please pray for the brother reported of in the below email.

Several of of you may remember Elder Constacio (Cons) Tejada - a dear Primitive Baptist elder from the Philippines. He visited with several other ministers a few years ago. Elder Tejada's father passed away while he was visiting Union Church on this previous trip. I felt so sorry for him then to see him grieve from half a world away from his family. Elder Tejada is also a brother-in-law to Elder Manolo Dalman that recently completed a trip to America to preach in several places. He accompanied us and served as our protector and safety adviser on some of our trips to dangerous parts of Mindanao - never leaving our sight except when we broke down on the mountainside and he left to get parts for the car. I love and appreciate him very much. Most of all, I love his preaching and zeal for the Lord. He is a great preacher and interpreter.

Elder Tejada suffered a stroke earlier in the week and is paralyzed on his right side. Initially he couldn't speak intelligibly, but that has greatly improved. He also could not feel his right side at first, but some feeling is now returning. We hope and pray this dear brother will continue to improve under the blessings of our Great Physician. Eld. Tejada lives in a remote part of Mindanao where there are not hospitals close by. Elder Dalman had to drive several hours to pick up Bro. Tejada to take him to Pagadian to a hospital. He was released yesterday and is returning home to recover. Please keep this dear brother in your prayers.

Blessings,

Darrel Chambers

Doth God take care for oxen?

“…..Doth God take care for oxen?”

This question was recently brought to my attention by a preacher friend. The Apostle Paul asks the above question in 1 Corinthians 9:9. I had never really given this question much thought. I usually thought, “well of course he does, he feeds the sparrows.” Is that the right answer? Does he take care of the oxen? What is the right answer? Let us take a look at the verses through the entire chapter.

The Responsibility Of Pastors And Churches - Wilson Thompson
Written by Ben Winslett
Thursday, 02 September 2010 08:54

Here is a great quote by Elder Wilson Thompson which I read this morning. Elder Thompson was probably the most well known minister of his era.

"Every preacher should love his Lord well enough to obey Him, feeding the flock, even if he got no money for it; nay, if it cost him all he had, and even his life beside. And the flock who were fed by him should remember that he had a right to his support from them. The duty of the church was plainly laid down, and they ought not to neglect it. The flock should be fed with doctrine, well tempered with experience and exhortation. The youngest lambs love sound doctrine if it is bright with experience; and the older sheep love experience if it is according to sound doctrine. Thus all the flock will feed together." - Elder Wilson Thompson

He espouses the perfect Biblical balance. Ministers should go and preach, regardless of financial reimbursement or support. They preach freely for the Love of Christ and His gospel. Yet, the same God Who holds ministers responsible to go and preach freely, also commands the churches to support their ministers in "carnal things," ie temporal support. In both cases, preaching freely and support of the ministry is an act of obedience to God.

John Leland Quote
Written by Ben Winslett

The following quote is by John Leland. Many Americans know him as a pivotal figure in the fight for Religious Liberty. Few realize that he was a Primitive Baptist preacher. He was a predestinarian holding firmly, as the supplied quote testifies, to salvation by the Sovereign Grace of God.

That God is good, and that men are rebellious - that salvation is of the Lord, and damnation is of ourselves, are truths revealed as plain as a sunbeam. - Elder John Leland

Spiritually Stagnant America

Not forsaking the assembling  of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching. - Hebrews 10:25

I was visiting another Elder's blog (www.jeremysarber.com) this morning while catching up with email and reading the morning news over coffee. On his blog was a story about some "Startling Church Statistics" in the United States. The stats are startling indeed, and show a great decline in the spirituality of our nation.
