I'm sure you're as bothered by today's Supreme Court ruling as I am. While everyone was busy arguing over a 19th Century flag, the Supreme Court just legalized same sex marriage. It's a terribly sad day for our country but really, is anyone surprised? Ever heard of Dred Scott v Sandford? Roe v Wade? We deceive ourselves if we expect the "powers that be" to honor God. It's a tremendous blessing when it happens, but using history as our guide we should not expect that to be the norm.
Nope. Not surprised. Not surprised at all.
But I have a few things to say.
1) God defined marriage. To same-sex couples, call yourselves what you want, you aren't a husband and wife. It takes a mommy and a daddy to make a baby because God designed us that way.
2) This court ruling doesn't mean the CHURCH has to recognize any marriage outside of a scriptural definition. I certainly won't.
3) While this is a shame for our nation and speaks very ill of our government, God's children belong to a Kingdom not of this world, and my concern is for this Kingdom much more than it is for the USA, a nation with a troubled past from the very start (slavery, war, Trail of Tears, abortion, etc). Maybe our eye has not "been single," and we've fretted more over the condition of America than we should have. We've likely given her a level of concern and devotion which only God and His Kingdom deserves.
4) There will be consequences. God is not mocked.
"For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold [supress] the truth in unrighteousness...And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet. And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient..." - Romans 1
A closing remark and official statement:
We affirm, according to the Scriptures and regardless of the definitions men and governments place upon the institution of Marriage, that God established this union to be between one MAN and one WOMAN for one LIFETIME.
