Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God, Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment. And this will we do, if God permit. - Hebrews 6:1-3

Notice two things:

1) A person is to move on to maturity as a disciple after learning the basic principles of Christ as found in the Bible. He or she is not to tread water in the basic doctrines, but move on to being a mature Christian by exercising themselves in the Lord.

2) This means in order for a person to be a successful, happy disciple, he or she must actually learn and embrace the founding principles. If the foundation is skewed or erroneous, the person will serve based on incorrect ideas and the motives behind worship and service will be flawed. This leads to unhappy, unfulfilled worship and service.

Doctrine is so very important. It is the foundation of a personal walk with the Lord. Bad doctrine equals a bad foundation. A bad foundation results in a crumbling structure.
