The level of anger and hatred in our country has been extremely elevated for several years. While we've recently seen some horrendous public displays of evil and hatred, the truth of the matter is, violence has taken to the street many times in the last decade. Why?

And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually...The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence. - Genesis 6:5&11

For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another. - Titus 3:3

Violence in the earth is the result of hatred in the heart. Hatred in the heart is a result of human depravity. Our society is given over to a reprobate mind, to do terrible things.

If you read the context of each chapter, you'll see the solution. In Genesis 6, Noah was different because Noah found grace. In Titus 3, the rescue of the child of God from hate is the kindness, love, and grace of God. Those who know Christ should be different! One is made to wonder how many violent protesters, rioters, or looters we've seen in recent years regularly darken the doorstep of a local assembly in worship. Shame on you! You dishonor your Lord.

At the same time, the only thing to keep a wicked man from pursuing his evil desires is the fear of punishment. This is why God gave the world government in the first place, to be a terror unto evil. If anyone takes to the streets in violent behavior, law enforcement should very sternly and swiftly put an end to it. As Romans 13 says, "he beareth not the sword in vain." Drop the hammer on any violent protester, criminal, or terrorist - period.

Consider these words, also from Romans 13: Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law. For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law. - Rom 13:810
